For the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the world’s most famous ship, author Hugh Brewster presents a dramatic, multi-media adaptation of his bestelling new book, RMS TITANIC: Gilded Lives on a Fatal Voyage. Two of Canada’s most distinguished actors, Christopher Newton and Brigitte Robinson of the Shaw Festival, assist in telling the story of the fatal maiden voyage and the people who sailed on her while photographs, rare footage and film clips shown on a large screen evoke the splendor and the horror of her fatal last night. The Elora Festival Singers under Noel Edison hauntingly recreate the music of the Titanic, assisted by a string ensemble reminiscent of the ship’s orchestra, and a bagpiper playing the Irish tunes of the lower decks.
Among the passengers whose stories will be featured are Lady Duff Gordon, the world’s most famous couturiere, who grew up as Lucy Sutherland in Guelph, Ontario, and a fun-loving bachelor named Thomson Beattie who hailed from Fergus, Ontario. Two performances only are scheduled for what will be an unforgettable evocation of this unsinkable story.
